Year 7 and 8 Service Children at Risedale School had a blast celebrating Armed Forces Day on Wednesday 19th June 2024, at Ypres Lines. The event offered a unique blend of learning and fun, allowing them to gain valuable insights into the world of the Armed Forces in a truly engaging way.
The day kicked off with a heartwarming display of camaraderie. While waiting for the opening ceremony, Risedale's Service Children showed their hospitality by entertaining pupils from another school. Their patience and resilience shone through even amidst the excitement and large crowds.
The festivities included a thrilling tug-of-war competition, where the girls emerged victorious in a display of impressive teamwork! Camouflage face painting was a big hit, transforming the children into mini-soldiers for the day.
The highlight for many was the delicious food prepared by the British Army Chefs. On top of that, there was even complimentary ice cream to enjoy in the sunshine!
"This event provided a fantastic opportunity for our Service Children to learn more about the Armed Forces and gain a deeper appreciation for the important and special jobs that their parents do," said Mrs Johnson, Risedale School's Service Children's Advocate. "They had the chance to ask questions, have fun, and connect with the soldiers who were fantastic throughout the day. The soldiers patiently answered questions, provided entertainment, and the incredible band's performance added a joyful touch under the beautiful sunshine."
A big thank you to Service Children's Champion, Angela Campbell, and her team for organising such a heartwarming and memorable day!
