The Risedale Year 9 rugby sevens team had a triumphant afternoon at the Wensleydale Tournament, winning three out of their four matches played in challenging cold and blustery conditions on Thursday 29th February.
Their winning streak began with a dominant performance against The Wensleydale School and Sixth Form, securing a convincing 8-1 victory with most of the team scoring.
The second match proved to be a tougher challenge against Thirsk School and Sixth Form College. However, the Risedale boys rose to the occasion, emerging victorious once again with a score of 4-0.
Maintaining their momentum, they faced Bedale High School in a close encounter. Despite a strong showing from Bedale, Risedale secured a narrow 2-0 win, setting up a final match against Richmond School.
The final match was a hard-fought battle, but ultimately Richmond School proved too strong, winning 6-3.
Despite the final defeat, the Risedale Year 9 team had a highly successful tournament, showcasing their talent and resilience throughout the day. They should be proud of their achievement, winning three out of their four matches.
A big thank you to Henley Nicholas (9Dickson) for his fantastic match report.
Mr Meacher, who supported the team on the day, praised their performance by saying, "I was incredibly impressed with how well the team played! Lekima Tuvakasiga and Omar Secka (both 9 Sandell) were particularly outstanding, but the entire team deserves recognition for their effort. They're already looking forward to next year's tournament, and I have no doubt they'll continue to excel."
