Year 11 Geographers delve into coastal issues at Hornsea.
On Friday 15th March our intrepid Year 11 GCSE Geographers embarked on a field trip to Hornsea on the Holderness Coast. Equipped with scientific curiosity and a taste for adventure, the group of sixty pupils delved into the fascinating world of coastal landscapes.
The morning session saw them transformed into coastal engineers, diligently measuring groynes (coastal defences) on Hornsea Beach. This hands-on experience provided them with a firsthand understanding of hard engineering techniques used to combat coastal erosion.
The afternoon brought a shift in focus, with the pupils venturing into Hornsea town centre. Here, they donned the hats of social scientists, conducting surveys to gauge local perspectives on the impact of tourism. But their exploration wasn't limited to questionnaires – they also treated themselves to a taste of the seaside with some delicious fish and chips! Thankfully, the weather cooperated, making it a truly enriching experience.
The success of this trip wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of our fantastic staff – Mrs Fletcher, Mr Ford, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Price, and Mr Meacher. Their support and guidance ensured a valuable learning experience for all the pupils.
