Risedale School celebrated an unforgettable Sports Day on Wednesday 3rd July 2024, at Catterick Athletics Stadium. This year's event held special significance as it marked the final Sports Day for Miss Brierley, our esteemed Head of PE, who is retiring after an incredible 25 years at Risedale.
The day was filled with excitement and friendly competition as pupils participated in classic track and field events alongside a thrilling array of inflatables, an assault course, jousting challenges, zorb football, and much more! Even our Headteacher, Mr Scott, joined in the fun, taking on pupils in the sumo wrestling challenge!
Attenborough House emerged victorious, claiming the top spot with a commanding lead of 1404 points. Congratulations to all the athletes who contributed to their House's success!
Congratulations to ATTENBOROUGH HOUSE Sports Day Champions 2024!
The final Sports Day results were as follows:
1st Attenborough 💙 with 1404 points
2nd Turing ❤️ with 1319 points
3rd Pankhurst 💜 with 1233 points
4th Seacole 🧡 with 1054 points
House System and Rewards Manager, Mr Gunnell said, “I am incredibly proud of all our pupils who participated in this year's Sports Day. The enthusiasm and effort were nothing short of spectacular. Witnessing the camaraderie among the pupils, especially with the older pupils setting such a fine example for our Year 6 visitors, was truly inspiring.
As a proud member of Seacole House, it pains me to admit defeat, but we must extend a huge congratulations to Attenborough House for their impressive victory. They stormed ahead and secured a commanding lead. These results have been added to the overall house points for the year, with Pankhurst House now appearing to hold an insurmountable lead at the top.
Thank you to everyone, especially the PE department, for making this sports day an outstanding success.”
Deputy Headteacher, Mr Yates expressed his gratitude by saying, “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this day possible! This includes Miss Brierley and the fabulous PE department for organising the day, all Risedale staff who helped with running the events, Catterick Athletics Stadium for hosting, the Army for their continued support and most importantly, our amazing pupils who gave it their all!”
A Fond Farewell to Miss Brierley
In a moment tinged with both joy and farewell, this marked the final Sports Day for our beloved Head of PE, Miss Brierley, who is retiring after a remarkable 25 years at Risedale. The entire Risedale Family extends its deepest gratitude for her dedication that has instilled a lifelong love of sportsmanship in countless pupils. Taking the baton forward in the PE department will be Mr Lawson and we're excited to see him build on our foundation of enthusiasm and help Risedale reach even greater heights in PE!
Miss Brierley reflected on the day, acknowledging the initial damp weather that couldn't dampen anyone's spirits. She expressed her immense gratitude to the staff, the Army for their continued support, and most importantly, the pupils for their resilience and sportsmanship. Highlighting these qualities made her incredibly proud as she stepped off the athletics stadium for the last time.
Miss Brierley added a heartfelt message about her time at Risedale: "It has been an absolute privilege. The staff are amazing, and we are all friends as well as colleagues. Thank you, Risedale, for the best years of my life – it's been a blast!"
