Risedale Girls' Football Team Triumphs in Penalty Shootout Drama.
In a thrilling cup fixture on Tuesday 21st January, one of Risedale School's talented girls' football teams, captained by Isabelle Dagnall (11Houlgate), battled for victory against Richmond School. The match was a closely contested affair, showcasing exceptional skill and sportsmanship from both sides.
Paige Doak (11Dunphy) scored a fantastic goal for Risedale, while goalkeeper Ava Hughes-Francis (10Sandell) made some truly spectacular saves to keep the score level. At full-time, the score remained 1-1, sending the match into a nail-biting penalty shootout.
"The tension was electric," said Mr Lawson, Head of PE at Risedale School. "The penalty shootout was so nerve-wracking that some of our girls couldn't bear to watch."
Ellie-Mae Reid (9Lawson) and Kai-Leigh Paige (11Houlgate) showed nerves of steel during the penalty shootout, while Ava Hughes-Francis continued her heroics between the posts, ultimately securing Risedale's victory.
"It was an incredible match," enthused Mr Lawson. "The girls played with such heart and determination throughout the entire game. They are a credit to the school and the entire Risedale Family."
