Festival of Remembrance 2024, Ripon Cathedral.
On Wednesday 6th November, Risedale School was privileged to participate in the annual Festival of Remembrance at Ripon Cathedral, alongside other schools across North Yorkshire. This moving ceremony, organised by Service Children's Champion Angela Campbell, was attended by over 600 children and commemorated the sacrifices of our nation's heroes and supported the families of those currently serving.
In preparation for the event, Risedale School pupils joined students from other schools for a visit to the Green Howards Museum in Richmond. Here, they explored the history of World Wars I and II, learning about the lives of soldiers who bravely served their country. Each school "adopted" a soldier, honouring their memory and sacrifice during the Festival of Remembrance service.
"It was an incredible experience to be part of such a moving and meaningful event," said Stacey Johnson, one of Risedale School's Service Children's Advocates. "Our pupils were inspired by the stories of those who came before us and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of remembrance. A huge thank you to Angela Campbell for organising such a special day for all of us."
The Festival of Remembrance is live-streamed annually on Ripon Cathedral's YouTube channel. You can access the recording of this year's event here: A Festival of Remembrance for North Yorkshire Forces Children
This poignant event serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to protect our freedoms. By honouring their legacy, we ensure that their stories live on and inspire future generations.
