Risedale School has been recognised for its commitment to girls' football, receiving an Equal Access School Award in partnership with Barclays Girls’ Football for 2024.
This prestigious award, part of the Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnerships by England Football (BGFSPs) scheme, highlights the school's dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for girls in the sport.
"It's a fantastic achievement for our school," said Mr J Metcalfe, Teacher of Maths and the girls' football coach at Risedale. "The girls have shown incredible enthusiasm and dedication, turning up week after week to train and play. Seeing their progress and passion for the game is truly inspiring."
With over 40 girls actively involved in the football programme and more joining every week, Risedale School has become a hub for female football talent. The team's success last year, marked by strong performances and a determined spirit, is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the players and coaching staff.
"Training sessions are held regularly on Thursdays after school, and we encourage any girl interested in football to come along and join us," added Mr Metcalfe. "We aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment where girls can develop their skills, make new friends, and most importantly, have fun."
By receiving this award, Risedale School joins a network of schools across the country that are working to break down barriers and provide equal access to football for girls. This recognition is a significant milestone for the school and a testament to its commitment to empowering young female athletes.
