Three pupils from Risedale had the privilege of attending the opening of the Veterans iHub's 'Catterick Historical Archive' at the Beacon on Thursday 7th September. The archive was officially opened by Carl Les, Leader of North Yorkshire Council and a Governor at Risedale School.
The Catterick Historical Archive is a treasure trove of artefacts that have been unearthed during historical excavations in Catterick, providing valuable insights into the Roman era in the region. Additionally, it houses various items that shed light on more recent developments such as the railway, army camp, and wartime Catterick. This unique opportunity allows our pupils to engage with genuine historical artefacts and documents, enriching their understanding of the area's rich history.
Michael Houlgate, Head of History at Risedale, and the Humanities staff began collaborating with the Veterans Association towards the end of the last academic year where our #RisedaleExplorers enjoyed their first heritage walk led by Mark Hill MBE. We hope that this partnership will continue to grow and provide even more opportunities for our pupils to connect with the rich history of their community.
Congratulations to Isla McGovern (9 Garvey), Rose Moore (9 Vizor) and Harley Waring (8 Allen) for representing the school so well.
