Risedale runners shine at the North Yorkshire Schools Athletics Championships.

Three Risedale School athletes shine after impressive performances at the North Yorkshire Schools Athletics Championships on Saturday 8th June.

Leading the charge was Rio Regan (9Sandell), who dominated the 800m race with a phenomenal personal best time of 2 minutes and 19 seconds. This scorching time secured him a well-deserved 1st place medal. Rio's success doesn't stop there - he's already set to take on the upcoming Inter Counties event at Gateshead International Stadium on Saturday 15th June. The whole Risedale Family is behind Rio, cheering him on for another victory!

"This was a fantastic day for our son," said Rio's proud father, Allan Regan. "He has done himself, the school, and our family incredibly proud. We're grateful for all the help and support he has received from Risedale."

Lucas Kirk (10Dunphy) also impressed on the track, showcasing his athleticism across both the 100m and 200m events. Lucas battled through a demanding day of qualifying rounds before reaching the finals. He secured a strong second-place finish in his 100m heat, followed by a commendable fifth-place finish in the final. Lucas continued his impressive performance in the 200m, competing fiercely against a competitive field.

Lucas' mother, Michelle, expressed her pride: "We are so proud of Lucas' achievements. Thank you to the school for putting him forward for this experience."

Like Lucas, Jay-Ron Browne (9Knight), tackled both the 100m and 200m races, showcasing his determination throughout the day. He achieved a strong position in both events, gaining valuable experience that will undoubtedly propel him towards future success.

"I was incredibly nervous before the events," Jay-Ron admitted, "but I'm really pleased with my results and I'm hopeful to go even further next year."

PE Teacher Mr Lawson couldn't be prouder of his pupils. "The boys qualified for the North Yorkshires after excelling at the Area Athletics Trials," he said. "To then compete at such a high level and demonstrate such resilience and athleticism is truly remarkable. They should all be incredibly proud of themselves."

Congratulations to Rio, Lucas, and Jay-Ron on their outstanding performances!
