Risedale pupils discover land-based careers at Askham Bryan College.
On Wednesday 26th June, a group of Risedale pupils embarked on a trip to Askham Bryan College, a specialist college near York offering a unique range of vocational courses. Organised by the school’s careers programme, the trip aimed to introduce pupils to alternative post-16 options focused on land-based studies.
Askham Bryan College boasts a variety of programmes ideal for pupils interested in pursuing careers in animal care, horticulture, floristry, equine studies, forestry, and agriculture. During their visit, the Risedale pupils toured the college's various departments, gaining valuable insights into each programme's curriculum and learning opportunities. They also had the chance to explore the college's farm and wildlife park, getting a firsthand look at the practical applications of these land-based fields.
"We always have a small group of pupils seeking options beyond our local colleges," said Mrs Porritt, Risedale's Careers Leader. "Askham Bryan College stands out for its unique post-16 programmes focused on alternative provisions. We're thrilled to have four former Risedale pupils flourishing there, and their positive experiences motivated us to organise this trip."
The informative visit concluded with a refreshing ice cream treat and a goodie bag for each pupil. A big thank you to Mrs Davies, Mrs Deighton and Mrs Brown for accompanying the pupils on this enriching trip.
