Risedale School's Head of Art has a new solo exhibition of ceramic art in Devon.
A new exhibition of ceramic artworks by Ms Westwood:
We’re so proud to announce that our very talented Head of Art, Ms Westwood, has a new solo show on at The Burton Art Gallery in Bideford, Devon. The exhibition will run from 17th June - 19th September 2023 consisting of a re-imagined collection of historical artefacts.
The exhibition features a collection of carefully crafted vessels, vases, bowls and coins that make direct reference to the female experience, and in particular to the physical, social, professional and domestic injustices encountered on a daily basis. At first glance, none of these objects would look out of place in a traditional museum cabinet, and yet a closer look reveals a very different story. The stories they tell cast light on the real and often disconcerting position that women have in contemporary society.
Ms Westwood is a conceptual artist and ceramicist whose work was chosen to appear on Grayson Perry’s critically acclaimed Art Club on Channel 4 in April 2022. Later that year her work was exhibited in a major national exhibition at MAC (Midlands Art Centre) alongside other artists, members of the general public, comedians and popular figures who featured in the third series Art Club.
